Let's face it: shopping for travel gadgets and camera accessories can be overwhelming.

Every product promises to be revolutionary, life-changing, or the one thing you absolutely cannot live without. But how many of those gadgets actually deserve a place in your suitcase or camera bag?

At Roam With RNM, we prefer talking about products we've personally purchased and used. Today, we're sharing five products we've added to our travel and content-creation setup. Some help us capture better photos and videos. Others make international travel or managing files much easier.

And yes, we'll tell you what we like and what could be better!

1. Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens — Small Lens, Big Results!

Our rating: 4/5 stars
Best for: Beginner photographers, portraits, and creative travel photography

When I paired this lens with my Canon EOS R50, I quickly discovered that you don't need an expensive professional lens to create beautiful photographs.

The Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM is lightweight, sharp, and surprisingly capable for its price. My favorite feature? That beautiful, soft background blur! It makes your subject stand out and gives portraits and detail shots a polished appearance.

What we love

What we love about this lens is its compact, lightweight design, sharp and attractive photos, beautiful background blur, and excellent value for beginner photographers.

What could be better?

This fixed-focal-length lens doesn't zoom, so you need to move or reposition yourself to change your composition. It also lacks built-in optical image stabilization and weather sealing. On the Canon R50, its relatively tight, approximately 80mm full-frame-equivalent field of view can make wide landscapes or cramped indoor spaces challenging. The RNM verdict

For beginner Canon R50 photographers looking to move beyond the kit lens, this is an excellent accessory to consider.

Our rating: 4/5 — A fantastic little lens at a reasonable price.

2. 360° Rotating iPad Holder for Mic Stand — The Studio Accessory I Didn't Know I Needed!

Our rating: 5/5 stars
Best for: YouTubers, teleprompters, and solo content creators

Have you ever tried recording yourself while reading a script, watching a monitor, and adjusting your equipment? Sometimes it feels like you need three extra hands!

I purchased this rotating iPad holder to use my tablet as a teleprompter and monitor. It has made my filming setup considerably easier.

What we love

What we love about this holder is its rock-solid positioning, surface-friendly clamp, quick orientation changes, design optimized for video workflows, and ideal reach for a studio setup.

What could be better?

Be careful when extending a heavy tablet away from a narrow stand; a stable base matters. And tapping a tablet attached to an active microphone boom may introduce unwanted vibrations into the recording.

The RNM verdict

This is one of the most useful accessories in my recording setup.

Our rating: 5/5 — A simple accessory that makes creating videos easier!

3. Vlog Selfie Monitor for iPhone — No More Filming Blind!

Our rating: 5/5 stars
Best for: Solo vloggers, YouTube creators, and short-form videos

Picture this: You record an entire video, deliver your best introduction, and finish feeling pretty pleased with yourself. Then you watch the footage—and your head is halfway out of the frame!

That's one frustration this Vlog Selfie Monitor helps me avoid. It lets me see my shot while using my iPhone's rear cameras.

What we love

What we love about this monitor is its clear, reliable display, hassle-free setup, secure magnetic hold, and pocket-sized portability.

What could be better?

So far, I haven't experienced any significant problems. However, compatibility, magnetic attachment, and performance can depend on the particular phone and monitor model.

The RNM verdict

For my YouTube recording setup, this little monitor has been a game-changer.

Our rating: 5/5 — More confidence, better framing, and fewer frustrating retakes!

4. VYLEE Universal Travel Adapter — One Adapter, Three Continents!

Our rating: 4/5 stars
Best for: International travelers who want to pack lighter

International travel is exciting. Packing five different plug adapters? Not so much.

I purchased the VYLEE Universal Travel Adapter because I wanted to stop carrying separate adapters for different destinations. After using it in Europe, Asia, and South America, I'm happy with how convenient it's been.

What we love

What we love about this adapter is its compact, space-saving design that reduces the accessories we pack, its convenient four-port hub with two USB-A and two USB-C ports, and its reliable performance after use across Europe, Asia, and South America.

What could be better?

A universal plug adapter is not necessarily a voltage converter. This device should not be described as converting voltage without explicit manufacturer confirmation. Always check your device's input-voltage requirements and confirm the adapter supports the outlets at your destination. Plug styles and electrical systems vary even within regions.

The RNM verdict

If you travel internationally, reducing the number of separate adapters in your luggage is a welcome convenience.

Our rating: 4/5 — Less packing, less worrying, and more exploring!

5. SSK Portable SSD 1TB — Big Storage, Tiny Package!

Our rating: 5/5 stars
Best for: Travel photographers, video creators, and people handling large files

There's nothing quite like recording beautiful vacation footage and then discovering your computer is almost out of storage.

That's where the SSK Portable SSD has been incredibly useful. I use this drive for travel photographs, 4K video projects, editing, and backups, and I love how little room it takes up.

What we love

What we love about this SSD is its blazing transfer speeds, rugged aluminum build that dissipates heat, pocket-sized portability, and versatile cable options.

What could be better?

The enclosure can get warm during long transfers. Actual speeds depend on your computer, USB connection, cable, and workload; the advertised maximum is not a guaranteed sustained real-world speed. A nominal 1TB drive typically appears as approximately 931 GiB in Windows because of the difference between decimal and binary storage units.

Device and direct-recording compatibility depend on the connected device, supported storage formats, and recording settings. Check those requirements before relying on the drive for a shoot.

The RNM verdict

For video projects, photographs, and everyday backups, this drive has been an excellent part of my workflow. And one tip: don't rely on a single drive as the only copy of irreplaceable travel memories.

Our rating: 5/5 — Small enough for a pocket, powerful enough for big creative projects!
